The University of Eldoret TAGDev 2.0 team has successfully concluded the final stage of the applicant selection process through a rigorous home validation exercise conducted across various counties. This pivotal milestone marks the final step in identifying and verifying eligible candidates who will benefit from the Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) program.
Following a rigorous application and interview process, the home validation phase aimed at ensuring transparency, inclusivity, and integrity in line with the program’s core values. The exercise involved field visits to shortlisted applicants’ homes, where the TAGDev 2.0 team assessed the socioeconomic backgrounds and verified the authenticity of information provided during the earlier stages of selection.
This task, which spanned both rural and peri-urban regions, allowed the team to better understand the contexts and challenges faced by prospective students, particularly those from marginalized communities. It also strengthened community engagement by allowing parents and guardians to interact with the University of Eldoret team and understand the broader objectives of the TAGDev 2.0 initiative.
“This step is not only about validation, it's about connecting with the stories behind the applications. Each visit reminded us why this program exists: to uplift and empower deserving youth, especially those who may otherwise lack access to higher education opportunities,” noted Mr Kipkogei Chemitei, the Associate Programme Officer, UoE TAGDev 2.0 Secretariat.
The finalized list of successful applicants is expected to be released soon, with the upcoming academic year seeing a new cohort of students joining the University under this transformative program. These scholars will benefit from holistic support that includes tuition, mentorship, life skills training, entrepreneurial coaching, and hands-on experience along the agricultural value chain.
As the TAGDev 2.0 program continues to unfold, the University of Eldoret remains committed to inclusive education and community transformation through meaningful partnerships, research, and development-driven training.
