Fifteen scholarship recipients from the University of Eldoret joined fifty of their peers from Egerton University for an enriching three-day TAGDev 2.0 Joint Orientation at Egerton University, Nakuru.
Held under the theme “Empowering Students for Inclusive Innovation and Community Impact,” the orientation acquainted the new cohort with the TAGDev 2.0 program while endowing them with practical skills for academic excellence, personal development, and transformative community engagement.
The inaugural day established the foundation by familiarizing students with the TAGDev vision and its core values. They engaged in interactive sessions encompassing digital competencies, safeguarding, human rights, and conflict management. This day also signified their formal induction into the TAGDev2.0 family, creating a profound sense of belonging as they embarked on their transformative journey of learning and innovation.
On the second day, focus transitioned to personal growth and responsibility. Through a series of workshops on goal setting, mental wellness, resilience, financial literacy, and civic responsibility, students were encouraged to chart their academic paths while developing life skills that would empower them to flourish beyond the confines of the classroom. The sessions emphasized holistic development, ensuring that scholars are equipped not only to excel individually but also to make a meaningful contribution to their communities.
“I felt truly welcomed into the TAGDev family. The sessions opened my eyes to the fact that this is more than a scholarship,it’s a movement for change. I mean the session on mental health really stood out for me. It reminded me that success is not just about academics but also about taking care of myself and others,’ said Mercy Chirchir UoE TAGDev 2.0 scholar.
The orientation culminated on an uplifting note with an inspiring alumni panel. Former TAGDev students shared candid stories of their experiences, challenges, and achievements while offering both encouragement and practical advice to the new cohort. Their reflections highlighted the continuity of the TAGDev 2.0 experience and reinforced the program’s mission to nurture resilient leaders, innovative thinkers, and community-driven change-makers.
By the close of the orientation, participants departed with a renewed sense of purpose and heightened confidence. The three-day program seamlessly blended knowledge, mentorship, and inspiration, reaffirming TAGDev 2.0’s unwavering commitment to shaping Africa’s next generation of leaders poised to revolutionize agriculture and propel inclusive development across the continent.
