The University of Eldoret Student Organization (UESO), in partnership with the TAGDev 2.0 and New Beginnings Organization, successfully held Young Mothers’ Day on 26th February 2026, a special event dedicated to celebrating and supporting young student mothers within the university community.

The event brought together student mothers, university leaders, partners, and fellow students in a meaningful engagement aimed at recognizing the strength, resilience, and determination demonstrated by young mothers as they balance academic responsibilities with parenthood.

Young Mothers’ Day was designed to create a safe and empowering platform where student mothers could share experiences, build networks of support, and receive encouragement to continue pursuing their education while embracing motherhood. Through interactive discussions and motivational sessions, participants explored ways of overcoming challenges associated with parenting during university life while maintaining academic success and personal wellbeing.

Speaking during the event, TAGDev 2.0 coordinator Prof Julius Ochuodho emphasized the need to include the boychild in the conversation of being young parents while in school.

‘The children also belong to fathers, and if we don’t involve the young fathers in these conversations we are losing out on the young men”

The organizers also emphasized the importance of inclusive university environments that acknowledge diverse student experiences and provide support systems that enable all learners to thrive. The collaboration between UESO under the Dean of Students, the TAGDev 2.0 Gender Team, and New Beginnings Organization highlighted a shared commitment to gender equity, student welfare, and empowerment initiatives within higher education institutions.

The event also underscored the role of partnerships in fostering holistic student development, aligning with broader efforts to promote equality, inclusion, and opportunity for young women and men pursuing higher education.

The young mothers expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the event provided not only recognition but also a sense of belonging and encouragement. Many described the day as a powerful reminder that motherhood and academic ambition can successfully coexist when supported by a caring community.

Young Mothers’ Day marks an important milestone in strengthening student-centered programs at the University of Eldoret and sets the foundation for continued initiatives aimed at uplifting and empowering student parents.
