The University of Eldoret (UoE) has selected 31 outstanding scholars for Cohort 2 of the Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) Scholarship Programme for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The scholarship programme, implemented at the University of Eldoret with support from RUFORUM, seeks to provide young people with opportunities to access higher education while equipping them with the knowledge, skills, leadership and entrepreneurial capabilities required to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s development.
The Cohort 2 scholars have been selected across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, reflecting the programme’s commitment to developing a diverse pool of young professionals who can contribute to agricultural transformation, entrepreneurship, education, technology and community development.
The demographic profile of the 31 scholars reflects TAGDev 2.0’s strong commitment to inclusion, gender equity and expanding access to higher education for young people from diverse backgrounds.
Of the 31 scholars, 21 are pursuing undergraduate studies, while 10 are enrolled in postgraduate programmes, representing approximately 68 per cent undergraduate and 32 per cent postgraduate scholars.
The cohort also has strong female representation, comprising 22 female scholars and 9 male scholars. Th female scholars account for approximately 71 per cent of the cohort, demonstrating the programme’s strong focus on increasing opportunities for young women in higher education.
TAGDev 2.0 has also provided opportunities for young people from refugee communities. Nine of the 31 scholars are refugees from Dadaab Refugee Camp in Northern Kenya, representing approximately 29 per cent of the cohort.
In addition, two scholars are persons with disabilities, further demonstrating TAGDev 2.0’s commitment to ensuring that scholarship opportunities are accessible to young people with diverse needs and backgrounds.
