In an effort to prepare newly admitted scholarship recipients for their academic journey, the Dean of the School of Agriculture & Biotechnology at the University of Eldoret Dr. Nicholas Rop held an orientation session with the cohort of TAGDev 2.0 beneficiaries. The meeting served as an introduction to the academic culture of the school and offered valuable insights into the myriad opportunities, expectations, and responsibilities inherent in studying within one of the university’s most vibrant faculties.
During the session, the Dean underscored the significance of agriculture as the cornerstone of Africa’s economy and a pivotal catalyst for sustainable development. He emphasized that the School of Agriculture and Biotechnology is strategically positioned to equip students not only with theoretical knowledge but also practical competencies through research projects, laboratory training, and field demonstrations.
“This is more than a school. It is a community of thinkers, innovators, and practitioners. As students, you are not just learning for yourselves, you are preparing to be agents of change in your communities and beyond,” the Dean remarked.
The orientation also provided the students a comprehensive overview of the school’s facilities, including modern laboratories, demonstration farms, and extension programs. These resources, the Dean explained, are designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world agricultural practice.
Students were urged to embrace research and innovation as core elements of their academic journey. They were also reminded of the importance of resilience, discipline, and collaboration, especially in navigating the challenges of contemporary agricultural studies.
For the TAGDev 2.0 scholars, the session was both inspiring and practical. They expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome and for the clarity offered regarding what to anticipate from the School of Agriculture. The orientation further strengthened their sense of purpose, as they discerned that their academic journey extended beyond personal advancement but contributed significantly to Africa’s overarching development agenda.
